GirForest.com exists because planning a Gir trip is more confusing than it should be. The safari system has its own rules, the official portal competes with a crowd of imitators, and a good deal of what is written about the park is vague, out of date or selling something. This is an independent guide to Gir, Sasan and the places around them — written to be useful before you go and while you are there.
What we cover
- The Gir Jungle Trail safari and Devalia Safari Park: how they work, and how the permit is booked.
- The lions, the rest of the wildlife, and the people who share the forest with them.
- Seasons, routes in and out, and where to stay around Sasan.
- Somnath, Veraval, Diu, Junagadh, Girnar, Porbandar and Dwarka.
- Which tours are worth booking, described honestly — including when reviews are poor.
How we research
Season dates, safari arrangements, distances and rules are checked against official announcements, operators and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide. Where a figure moves around — permit fees, timings, flight schedules — we give a range or say “check the portal”, rather than pretend to a precision that does not exist.
Rules in a protected area change at short notice. We describe them as accurately as we can and always recommend confirming on the official portal or locally before you set out.
How the site is funded
We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placement and no paid inclusion in any ranking. We earn nothing when you book a permit on the official portal, and we still tell you to do it there. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
Dates shift, prices move and rules are rewritten. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us via the contact page.
